There is one particular yard that I aerated and overseeded a yard in Chesterfield about four weeks ago this year and it looks great. The seed germinated because the ground was kept moist at all times. At the beginning of the year the grass was thin and sparse. I suggested a good fertilizer program and aeration and overseeding in the fall and now the grass is thick, green and healthy. It is amazing how much a good fertilizer program and fall aeration and overseeding can help a yard.
I cannot stress enough how important watering the lawn is after overseeding. The ground must stay moist at all times for the seed to germinate. This involves watering three times a day for about 10 minutes. And when the seed gets to about two inches water one time a day for about 30 minutes
